Are you tired and not sleeping through the night. I’ve gone through many sleepless nights, especially when my babies were infants. I learned tools to help myself go to sleep and stay asleep!

There is no tired like a exhausted mom, just like there is nothing more important to keeping our bodies in check than SLEEP. If we aren’t getting adequate sleep and rest our bodies begin to shut down. Even if you aren’t a mama, sleep allows our bodies and mind to recharge and gives us the downtime that we need for balancing our bodies.

We often find ourselves caught in what seems like a lose-lose situation – mamas need sleep, but the family needs the mamas.

How can essential oils help to support your sleep?

TOP 5 ESSENTIAL OILS FOR SLEEP

doTERRA SERENITY– The essential oils in this must-have blend were meticulously chosen to Essential Oils for Sleeplessen feelings of tension, calm emotions, and leave a peaceful feeling. Serenity is the perfect blend to diffuse at bedtime for a restful night’s sleep, to calm a restless baby or child, or to help reduce the worry and stress so many of us feel. Add this oil to your petal or aromalite diffuser at night. You can also put a drop in your hand if you wake up in them middle of the night.

LAVENDER offers a light floral scent with calming esters that whisk the body and mind into tranquility. Massage it into your pulse points and the bottoms of your feet, diffuse, or take an Epsom salt bath before bedtime to release tension and promote peace and calm. Safe for babies from 6 mos of age when diluted to adults, Roman Chamomile works well when applied to pulse points, diffused, or in an Epsom Salt bath before bedtime. Adults can put one to two drops and massage on the big toes which is your pineal gland pressure point.

VETIVER enables the body to find calm and grounds the emotions to allow for relaxation. When applied before bedtime, it can calm the nervous system and support the immune system as well while ridding you of unwanted anxiety and stress. Safe for kiddos when diluted but usually reserved for teens and adults due to its deep, rich, exotic aroma that some children may not enjoy. This is one plant that instantly makes me calm. I leave vetiver by my bed side so that I can put one drop on my temples or in the palm of my hands and hold my thumbs which are the brain pressure point. 

CEDARWOOD – I love this oil in my kids diffuser. It is a calming woody scent that reminds me of relaxing in the woods.  I rub 1-2 drops on the bottoms of my feet before bedtime for a solid night’s sleep. Cedarwood has a calming and soothing effect on the mind. Add two drops of cedarwood and lavender for a restful sleep.

5 Ways to Use Lavender Essential Oil

Lavender oil, otherwise known as Lavandula Angustifolia, is extracted directly from the Lavender flower. There are many ways to use Lavender Essential Oil in your day-to-day life such as improving your sleep, calming your anxiety, eliminating nausea, applying topically to cuts, and soothing aching muscles.

A good night’s rest is key to a happy and healthy life! Lavender Essential Oil can aid in eliminating those restless nights. If you have a diffuser, place a few drops of the oil into the diffuser 15 minutes before bed. If not, place 2-3 drops of oil directly on your pillow right before bed. In many instances, the relaxing and calming effect from Lavender Essential Oil has proven to be a far better alternative to modern medicine for those suffering from insomnia.

In stressful times, a bottle of Lavender Essential Oil by your side is crucial. Many stores now carry small bottles of Lavender oil that fit perfectly in your pocket or purse. Studies had shown that students who inhaled the oil before taking a test showed a significant decrease in stress, as well as increased mental focus. To calm yourself during a tense situation, rub 2 drops of oil into your hands, cup them over your nose, and inhale. Exhale slowly. The refreshing scent not only calms nerves, but sends signals to your brain that help to reduce anxiety, headaches, and tension.

Feeling nauseous? Place 2 drops of Lavender Essential Oil behind your ear or 1 drop on the tip of your tongue. This will help to alleviate any feelings you may have including motion sickness.

Minor cuts and bruises typically don’t require medical intervention, but that’s where Lavender Essential Oil comes into play, acting as a cleaning agent and disinfectant for minor cuts. Apply a small amount of oil on the affected area (typically no more than 2-3 drops), and let it seep in. Aside from aiding in infection prevention, the application of Lavender Oil will also help to reduce the appearance of scars.

Post workout muscle soreness, or just an aching back from a long day at work warrant a nice warm Lavender bath. Fill up your tub with warm water, add in half of a cup of Epsom Salt, and 4-5 drops of Lavender Essential Oil. Light a candle and enjoy the calm scent while allowing the oil to grace your skin for optimum muscle relaxation.

It is important to consult with your doctor before using essential oils if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Essential oils should be used in moderation and with caution.
